Nelson Mandela University – Tegkor Accounting Bursaries 2023
The Nelson Mandela University is inviting students to apply for the Tegkor / Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary. The bursary is open to Accounting students, at undergraduate (1st year, 2nd year and 3rd) and postgraduate level.
The 1st year bursary covers studies in these fields:
- BCom Accounting
- BCom Accounting Sciences
The 2nd and 3rd year bursary covers studies in these fields:
- BCom Accounting (Chartered Accounting)
- BCom General Accounting
- BCom Accounting Sciences
The Postgraduate bursary covers studies in these fields:
- Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA-CTA)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy (PGDA)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Internal Auditing (PGDIA)
The bursary value varies according to the year of study:
- 1st year students will receive funding up to the value of R12 500.
- 2nd and 3rd students will receive funding up to the value of R7 500.
- Postgraduate students will receive funding up to the value of R7 500.
Bursary awards will be credited to the bursars student account. The bursary may be used in conjunction with another bursary or award (if it has been declared on your application form).
Requirements
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
1st year students:
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must have completed Matric
- You must have achieved excellent academic results in Matric
- You must have achieved a minimum result of 80% for Mathematics in Matric OR a minimum Applicant Score (AS) of 420
- You must be accepted to start your full-time studies towards your 1st year of study in 2023
- You must be accepted to study towards a BCom Accounting or BCom Accounting Sciences qualification at Nelson Mandela University
- Preference will be given to students in financial need (who form part of the “missing middle” i.e. with a household income of between R350 000 and R600 000 per annum – students who wish to study further but do not qualify for NSFAS)
2nd and 3rd year students:
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must be currently studying towards a BCom General Accounting, BCom Accounting (Chartered Accounting) or BCom Accounting Sciences qualification at Nelson Mandela University
- You must be in your 2nd or 3rd year of full-time study in 2023
- You must have achieved excellent academic results: a minimum average of 70% for 2022 studies for 1st year modules OR a minimum average of 65% for 2022 studies for 2nd year modules
- You must have made a big contribution to society or others during 2022 – social commitment will be assessed based on evidence submitted by the student
- Preference will be given to students in financial need (who form part of the “missing middle” i.e. with a household income of between R350 000 and R600 000 per annum – students who wish to study further but do not qualify for NSFAS)
Postgraduate students:
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must be entering your Postgraduate studies towards an Accounting qualification at Nelson Mandela University in 2023
- You must be currently studying full-time towards a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA-CTA), Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy (PGDA) or Postgraduate Diploma in Internal Auditing (PGDIA) qualification at Nelson Mandela University
- You must have achieved excellent academic results: a minimum weighted average of 60% for your 3rd year of undergraduate studies OR a minimum weighted average of 55% in your PGDA programme
- Preference will be given to students in financial need (who form part of the “missing middle” i.e. with a household income of between R350 000 and R600 000 per annum – students who wish to study further but do not qualify for NSFAS)

1st year students:
- ID document (copy only)
- Parent or guardians proof of income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed)
- Matric final results or Matric certificate (copy only)
2nd and 3rd year students:
- ID document (copy – does NOT have to be certified)
- Parents or guardians proof of income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed)
- Full academic record or transcripts (copy only)
- Documented evidence of contribution to society (testimonials which should include: project description, duration of involvement in in each project, difference the project and how many people benefited from the project)
Postgraduate students:
- ID document (copy only)
- Parents or guardians proof of income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed)
- Full academic record or transcripts (copy only)
