The Foundation for Human Rights (FHR) is recruiting and invites applications for the 2023 Internship Programme.

The FHR seeks to appoint a qualified individuals for various positions, based in Johannesburg. Position: Internship (12 months)

Programme Management Responsibilities:

Participate actively in assigned programme work, ensuring that systems, processes and outputs are grounded in FHR values

Conduct research in support to FHR Programmes
Work within the programme team to ensure the effective implementation of organisation’s objectives

Provide administrative assistance to the team

Assist in coordination and organising of events around the launch of reports produced by the
FHR Social Media and communication

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Program, media, Communications and marketing teams in planning and developing content, layout, and style of social media posts for the designated programme.
  • Develop and publish engaging content for specific audiences.
  • Ensure high level of accuracy of writers’ posts by proofreading, editing and improving content
  • Work with Media and Communication in maintaining brand consistency
  • Ensure content are SEO-friendly
  • Analyse site traffic and user engagement using content management systems
  • Ensure effective content distribution to social media platforms and other online channels with
    the aim of improving web traffic

Requirements:

  • A postgrad degree in the social sciences or other relevant discipline;
  • Working knowledge of and commitment to human rights, especially in a South African context;
  • Writing articles for Social Media, website and online media communications is an advantage
  • Track and report on FHR social Media Communications desirable.
  • Experience doing policy research work is desirable;
  • Experience in advocacy work will be an added advantage;
  • Experience in report-writing and conducting independent research;
  • Communication skills -excellent verbal and written communications skills;
  • Ability to work independently and with a team;
  • Fluency in English;
  • Passion for social justice and realisation of socio-economic rights;
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and responsibility for areas of work;
  • Additional language skills and project work experience are a plus.

  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Professional, Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Able to work under pressure and deliver on adhoc tasks when required.

Functional competencies:

  • Excellent presentation, public speaking and writing skills.
  • English proficiency (Fluent in English, verbal and written skills).
  • Excellent writing, spelling, editing and proofreading skills.

  • Being flexible, creative and proactive
  • Must be much organised with the ability to manage several simultaneous projects/activities.
  • Having competent project management skills
  • Being able to priorities projects and tasks
  • Appetite to work in an international environment
  • Stress resistant, flexible, open-minded

Education:

  • An post-graduate degree in the social sciences;
  • Excellent attention to details, being methodical and organized.
  • Social Media Management short course added advantage.
