Cape Wools SA: Bursaries 2024

Cape Wools SA is offering bursary opportunities for students for the 2024 academic year through the Wool Industry Bursary Trust. These bursaries are available for studies in Textile or Fashion Design related to the Wool Industry, particularly in the wool or sheep direction.

Renewability & Selection:

  • The bursary may cover various expenses, including registration fees, tuition fees, accommodation, prescribed books, and other study-related materials.
  • For students at Grootfontein Agricultural College, the bursary can provide practical on-farm training, up to a maximum value of R20,000 per student, payable to the farmer to defray costs if required by your institution.

Renewal & Selection:

  • Bursaries are awarded based on academic merit and are reviewed and paid every six months.
  • Bursaries are not automatically renewed each year. Students must comply with the institution’s rules and conditions and submit satisfactory academic results to have their bursary renewed.
  • Students must undertake vacation work for up to 4 weeks per annum on an active wool farm.
  • After graduation, students must seek employment at an approved farm or organization within the wool or related industry for 1 year for each year of funding received.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria:

  • South African citizenship.
  • Studying or intending to study a qualification in Textile or Fashion Design with a focus on wool.
  • Meeting all admission requirements of the institution.
  • Final year collection containing garments made of at least 50% wool.
  • Masters degree students must focus on wool and its applications.
  • Preference is given to students at Agricultural Colleges or tertiary institutions in fashion and textile design.
  • Preference is given to students in their 3rd year of study and onward (Honours/ Masters/ PHD) in a wool or sheep-focused direction.
  • Preference is given to previously disadvantaged students.
  • Agreement with all the terms and conditions on the application form.
