KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) invites eligible South African students to submit applications for the Bursary Programme for the academic year 2024.
KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Bursary 2023
Eligibility Criteria:
- Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
- Residency: Should reside within KwaZulu-Natal province.
- Age: Between 18 and 35 years old.
- Academic Status: Currently in Matric or completed Matric.
- Field of Study: Studying or intending to study full-time for a National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in the specified fields.
- Tertiary Institution: Studying or provisionally accepted/accepted at a public tertiary institution in KwaZulu-Natal (exceptions might be considered).
- Preference: Candidates with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
Expenses Covered:
The bursary covers various expenses including tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, accommodation, meals, and a stipend. Successful candidates will enter into a bursary contract with an obligation to serve the Department for a specified period equal to the duration of their qualification.

- Acceptance letter from a tertiary institution
- Proof of non-acceptance by tertiary institutions within KZN (if applicable)
- Academic curriculum
- List of tuition fees
- Parents or guardians’ ID documents or death certificates
- Parents or guardians’ income and expenditure statement
- Parents or guardians’ proof of income
- Proof of residence
- Motivational letter stating reasons for deserving the bursary award and personal circumstances.
