Internship Overview: The CSIR offers two internship opportunities in the Textile Testing and Characterisation facility, within the Advanced Polymer Composites Research Group, as part of the Chemicals Cluster. This internship program provides graduates with a chance to gain practical work experience in textile testing and characterisation of industrial samples under the guidance of experienced technologists.
Key Responsibilities: Under supervision, the Intern will be responsible for various tasks, including:
- Conducting textile testing and routine verification tests accurately
- Ensuring compliance with Global Laboratory Quality Management System (ISO 17025: 2017)
- Maintaining Turn Around Time (TAT) within agreed time frames
- Reconciling remaining tested samples and hard copies after testing and storing them as per client requirements
- Carrying out quality assurance measures and applying work and test procedures according to relevant standards
- Ensuring the laboratory has adequate resources to perform all required work
- Complying with corporate policy procedures and representing Inspectorate ethically and professionally in all areas
Qualifications and Experience: Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- A National diploma in textile technology or quality and other related fields
- A ‘hands-on’ approach to equipment operation and laboratory work
- Computer literacy with MS Office Package
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Self-motivated and a team player
- Analytical, methodical, innovative, and results-driven
- Willingness to learn and work under pressure
- Proactive and focused
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize and work with a sense of urgency and accuracy
- International qualifications require an evaluation report/certificate issued by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA)
